- Take 1 Onion, chopped
- Get 1 Tomato, chopped
- Get 1 tbsp Ginger chopped
- Prepare 1 tbsp Garlic chopped
- Make ready 2 tsp Green chillies
- Take 1 spring Curry leaves
- Take 1 tsp Red chilli powder
- Make ready 1 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
- Take 1 tsp Pepper powder
- Get 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
- Prepare 1 1/2 tbsp Tamarind water
- Make ready 1 tsp Coconut, shredded
- Get 1 tsp Coriander leaves roughly chopped
- Get to taste Salt
- Make ready 1 tsp Coconut oil
- Get To wrap and serve:
- Make ready 1 Banana leaf, broad enough to wrap
- Prepare As required Banana string or twine to tie
- Get As required Coconut oil to grease
- Make ready 1 spring Curry leaves
- Take As per taste Lemon juice to sprinkle
Can't wait for my next vacation! š. Authentic Meen Kuzhambu recipe without coconut in Chettinad style. It is very quick to make with freshly ground spices and goes well with rice, idli/Dosa. I would like to try different varieties of fish curry.
Steps to make Meen(fish š ) Polichadhu:
- In a bowl add coriander powder, chilli powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder and salt.
- Mix the dry ingredients together.
- Add ginger garlic paste and lemon juice.
- Mix it again make it a masala paste and keep it aside.
- Clean the fish competely put the masala paste on the fish spread the masala all over the fish and let it marinate.
- Now fry the fish on medium flame, once it is cooked on one side turn it to another side.
- In another pan add some oil and add chopped ginger garlic and saute for few seconds and add chopped onions and tomatoes then add green chillies and curry leaves, stir it occasionally.
- Add red chilli powder, pepper powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and salt, mix it well and add tamarind water and allow it to cook for some time.
- Now add the chopped coriander and coconut and let cook for some time.
- To this masala sauce add the fried fish.
- Cover half of the masala on the top of the fish and keep the remaining to place it on the banana leaf.
- Take a banana leaf
- Wilt it by turning it over a medium flame to make it soft.
- Grease the leaf with coconut oil.
- Sprinkle onion and curry leaves on the top of the leaf and add the other half masala and place the fish on the masala.
- Wrap the fish with banana leaf and tie it with banana string or a twine.
- Heat some oil in the pan and place the fish on the pan and then cover with the lid cook for 5 mins and turn over on the other side and cook for 5 mins so that the banana leaf flavor would infuse into the fish. Now take it out and your meen polichadu is ready to taste.
I have already posted a version of Meen Kuzhambu with coconut. This fish curry is Chettinad based. The fish will cook faster so be careful not to break the pieces. Once the fish turns soft and the curry is well boiled and thick, oil will start collecting at the. Drain off the excess water and place the fish in a bowl.
